Minecraft On Rift Mostly Avoids The Usual First-Person VR Mistakes

VR Control mode has a number of options available for it, but the default is that turning is done by a series of instant changes, like teleporting in place but facing a different angle. Turn slowly and the jumps are tiny, turn fast and you get a much larger angle of change. Additionally, when you look while walking your "body" automatically changes direction to face the same way without the need to manually adjust it. The trick is to eliminate as much as possible anything that might cause dizziness, and although these changes wouldn't work on a game like Doom they're fine for something slower-paced like Minecraft. It may be weird and a little jarring but also surprisingly effective.

Certainly, this lends itself to some games better than others. It won't work with any sort of scripted, linear action game, but it's not much trouble to take a chunk of an RPG or Sandbox world, string together a bare-bones quest line, and set players loose. This allows for demos of the caliber you see with emergent games, where it's much easier to take a chunk of gameplay and give it away - Civ V's Demo let you play with a few civilizations on small maps, for instance, while Killer Instinct gives players one free character as a taste. I'm all for anything that allows single-player, structured games to be more competitive, especially when it provides a workable alternative to awful early-access crap.

600The lore also does not seem to be empty at all. In some games, you walk away feeling like you could have lived your whole life not needing to know anything about what just happened. This game, and specifically this episode, doesn't feel that way and makes sure to utilize all the time in the episode to prove that. Nothing goes unnoticed and everything is important whether it be information that pertains to this game specifically or the base game. Battles are not too long-winded and conversations don't make you want to skip them. Everything feels as though they are timed just right and you almost forget that you are sitting in front of your television for so long. You don't really think about what could have happened if you did or said something differently and only look forward to seeing what comes of the decision you've just made, which is odd for a game that is meant to be replayed in order to make different decisions. Besides, there are some things that you wouldn't want to see happen again and are better off just forgetting all of the decisions that you didn't make.

There is no new game plus but there is a separate free build mode. Story progression unlocks items in free build mode, and free build mode allows the player to build without limits. Things the player constructs in free build mode can be sent to other players. Free build mode does online connectivity but it is single player only, aside from being able to share items and buildings. It is possible to call for help from other players in this mode. For example, someone was involved with a 24 hour stream and wanted to build an amusement park and requested help through the Dragon Quest Builders social networking channel to get help from other players. Someone built a Ferris wheel, someone else built concessions, and the amusement park was able to get completed quickly since other people were contributing their creations. (noticing the suite is getting packed up for the night and other media people are leaving)

Minecraft: Story Mode - Episode 4: A Block and a Hard Place is the strongest episode yet in basically every aspect. Employing emotional factors as well as hard story elements, Telltale has managed to create a story that originated from just a few blocks. Every second of this two hour episode was spent towards making the player feel as though everyone really is depending on them to save the world. Hard times fall, but Jessie and his friends make this episode an unforgettable experience that one can only hope to be transferred to next and final episode of this series.

Minecraft: Story Mode has managed to surprise fans of episodic games with every episode released. While the second episode might not have proven that, both Episode 1, Episode 3 and now Episode 4 have not disappointed. Probably the best episode yet in both content and character development, educational Minecraft Content: Story Mode - Episode 4: A Block and a Hard Place will leave you emotionally defeated. Lasting a little bit over two hours, the episode gives closure to the events that Jessie and his friends are facing in saving the world from the Witherstorm. It begins right where you left off last, either Ellegard or Magnus having died (according to the decision that you make) and Gabriel having been rescued but with no recollection of what has happened (a side effect from having Wither Sickness). You all run from the storm only to find safety in a cave, still within the storm's range.

Now Minecraft has no overarching objective, so it instantly challenges McGonigal’s claim that a goal is required in a game. But actually, Minecraft ’s main goal is composed of multiple smaller goals. It doesn’t have a "grand" objective, but it has smaller objectives, little bite-size incentives that replace each other over time and take the role of a larger objective. First you collect resources, then you build a house, then you survive the night, then you wake up and continue, but each with steadier and steadier increases in scope and scale. Even better, there’s no one direction to go. Being able to explore in multiple regions and build whatever you feel is satisfactory is open-ended. You are given tools and no direction, yet you are still creating. You’re making the direction. This is a massive undertaking, one that changes everything that anyone knew about videogames before, and it’s a bigger embodiment of the "sandbox" mentality than Grand Theft Auto has even been.
