211c6055-256d-478a-b60e-ece0d52a3d47.jpgThe are two reasons getting this right is important, and both reasons are the same but viewed from different perspectives- Minecraft is still the biggest game in the world. The official VR mode is exclusive to the Rift, so you can bet that Microsoft/Mojang and Oculus worked together to make sure the experience is as inviting as possible. Getting this right is a major deal for both companies. This ties in to the other perspective, which is consumer-side. For a lot of people Minecraft will be a premier game for VR, and how accessible it is will become the baseline expectation of the experience. Make it nice and maybe it becomes the VR gateway drug, and at the moment the experience is acceptable. The default starting view may be the same Minecraft as always on an in-game screen, and Classic Control has high nausea potential, but the jerky VR Control is the kind of thing you learn to tolerate simply because it's effective.

The result is, usually, pure unadulterated madness. Whereas this same set up can be annoying in games like Battletoads, here the die and die again as a result of your friends method is embraced with a level of carefree joy that matches the game's initially confounding visual design. Cloudberry Kingdom's multiplayer sessions are some of the best bonding experiences out there, despite the fact you'll spend most the time with them resenting everyone around you.

Clocking in at roughly two hours, this episode is one of the longer Telltale episodes right behind the first episode of Tales from the Borderlands. Even though it’s generally long for an episode, it doesn’t mean that time was wasted. With every passing second, new lore is learned about this rendition of the Minecraft world and how characters perceive the strange world around them. Who knew that people were pretty used to the idea of killing a dragon from another dimension and hosting a convention in honor of the heroes who slew it?

For the most part though, the appeal here stems from getting together with your buddies and enjoying a satisfying brawler with a tightly designed combat system, and bar none some of the best level design of this generation. The multiplayer portion may only last you a couple of hours or less, but is worth revisiting several times for the simple pleasures it provides. Simply put, this is an example of old school beat em' ups at their very best.

Death's Door follows a young crow on its quest to cull the land of a series of "enemies" that plan on living forever. It's a charming game filled with entertaining characters and a story revolving around a mysterious door that a wise old Crow wants to see opened. Those who enjoy fantastical settings should love to visuals for this rele

Wii Sports may be good enough for Grandma to play as advertised, but what's most amazing about is not it's ability to ensnare the leisure time of the elderly, but rather how it created an experience that can be enjoyed on an equal level amongst all who play it.

The Classic Control is what you'd normally put up with in a standard FPS, where head movement moves the view and body orientation is controlled smoothly by the right stick or mouse. This is the heart of the VR FPS problem, because while moving forward, back, and strafing isn't much of an issue, turning the view without moving your body is when bad things start to happen at the base of your lizard brain. Even in a blocky Minecraft world the sense of Real is too strong, and while you know you're playing a game the part that keeps things like your heart pumping and lungs breathing without conscious thought hasn't the slightest idea what's wrong. The trick is to break the idea of Real, and this is where the special VR Control mode comes into play.

When there's a lot of stress or anxiety in the world, it's nice to take a step back and relax. Animal Crossing is a game that does this well while alone or even better when hanging out with friends. It's hard to find a title where doing next to nothing can feel rewarding, but in Animal Crossing just running around with friends feels like a fun time. There's a sense of companionship when sharing items or fruit and rivalry when catching bugs or fish. The core of Animal Crossing's entire identity is community, sharing interests and differences. New Horizons has players starting from nearly nothing and Pokémon building game their own world along the way. Eventually players can show off their hard work with a fully decorated house or a fantastic visit to the museum. Even just sitting down to take a picture together with silly expressions gives that relief that it's alright to take a break without thinking too hard now and then. Not even a wasp sting can hurt long when a friend is there to give some medicine or at least laugh over how ridiculous it was.

Minecraft Dungeons and Torchlight do somewhat render Fate obsolete, in the sense that they are more modern action RPGs that scratch the same itch; however, the 2005 release and its sequels are nevertheless charming and worth seeking out. They are also quite cheap on Steam, so they do not require much of an investm
